The Christie’s radiography team that is located at The Royal Oldham Hospital has won a top regional award from the Society and College of Radiographers.

The centre, which cost more than £17 million to build and is considered one of the best centres of its types in the region, has more than justified its high price tag and the Christie's team has been awarded with the North West Team of the Year award to commend them for their efforts.

The team picked up the award at an awards ceremony that was held at the House of Commons, with special recognition given to the fact that they can treat upwards of 80 patients every day thanks, in part, to a pair of £1.3 million radiography machines.

Opened in 2010, the centre was the first of its kind in the UK and has quickly set a benchmark for all other Christie centres in the future. Improvements in the treatment of prostates and a reduction in side effects have been achieved, plus breast screening and advice is now much more readily available to residents thanks to the centre.

Julie Davies, who is the lead Radiographer at the centre, commented: "I’m delighted. As a radiographer with 25 years’ experience, I have never worked with such a hardworking, dedicated team which constantly strives to improve the quality of service for our patients and truly embodies the radiographic profession."

Sonographers Medical would like to extend its own congratulations to the team for the award and all of their hard work. Remember, if you are interested in a radiography job yourself, there are plenty to be found at on our website.
